KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Three Taliban militants including key commander Mullah Abdullah alias Fedai were killed and two others injured after clashes erupted in Dasht-e-Archi district of Afghan northern Kunduz province on Wednesday, a local official said.

"A group of Taliban insurgents under notorious commander Mullah Abdullah alias Fedai attacked a checkpoint of national army in Dasht-e-Archi district today morning and the army soldiers returned fire triggering a gun battle which lasted for a while as a result Mullah Abdullah along with two others were killed," Governor of Dasht-e-Archi district Nasrudin Nazari told Xinhua.

Two more militants sustained injuries, the official said.

He also asserted that no security personnel or civilians were hurt in the fighting.

"The infamous Mullah Abdullah was a dreadful commander and his physical elimination could prove a major blow to the Taliban rebels in Kunduz province," the official added.

Taliban militants are yet to make comment on the report.
