LIVIGNO, Italy, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- China strengthened its medal campaign on Day 14 of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics as Wang Xindi won gold and teammate Li Tianma secured bronze in the men's freestyle skiing aerials on Friday.

The result lifted China's overall tally to four golds, three silvers and five bronzes, surpassing 11 medals collected at both Vancouver 2010 and Turin 2006.

Wang's victory also carried a unique family significance. Two days after his wife Xu Mengtao defended the women's aerials title, he followed with gold of his own, making them one of the rare married couples to each win individual gold medals at the same edition of the Winter Games.

Wang, competing in his third Olympic Games, delivered when it mattered most. Third to jump in the final, the 30-year-old posted 132.60 points with a composed landing. Switzerland's Noe Roth responded with 131.58, but the score was not enough to deny the Chinese skier his first Olympic gold.

The medal round developed into a China-Switzerland duel, with four Chinese and two Swiss athletes advancing. Roth secured silver, preventing a Chinese sweep of the podium, while Olympic debutant Li Tianma claimed bronze with 123.93 points. Sun Jiaxu finished fourth, and defending champion Qi Guangpu placed sixth after faltering on his final jump.

Elsewhere in Livigno, the men's freestyle skiing halfpipe title went to American Alex Ferreira, who scored 93.75 points to finally secure Olympic gold after earning silver in PyeongChang and bronze in Beijing. Estonia's Henry Sildaru took silver with 93.00, and Canada's Brendan Mackay claimed bronze.

China fielded four athletes in the qualification round, which had been postponed due to adverse weather, but none progressed to the 12-man final. Su Shuaibing ranked 16th as the highest-placed Chinese competitor after attempting a routine featuring multiple high-difficulty spins.

In Milan, South Korea dominated the women's 1,500 meters short track speed skating event, taking gold and silver in a tightly contested final. China's young skater Yang Jingru narrowly missed out on a podium finish, placing fourth.

The Netherlands maintained its traditional strength in speed skating. Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong clocked 1:54.09 to win the women's 1,500 meters, edging Norway's Ragne Wiklund by just 0.06 seconds. The victory marked Rijpma-de Jong's first Olympic gold medal in her fourth Winter Games.

Men's ice hockey semifinals saw Canada edge Finland 3-2 in a tense encounter, while the United States defeated Slovakia 6-2. The two North American rivals will face each other in the gold medal game on Sunday, with the bronze medal match scheduled for Saturday.

In Anterselva, Norway continued to dominate biathlon. Johannes Dale-Skjevdal won the men's 15km mass start after hitting all 20 targets, delivering Norway's 17th gold medal of the Games. The United States remains second on the gold medal table with 10. ■
