KAMPALA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Uganda have named the squad that will take part in qualifiers for 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Monday.

"I have named a strong team that I believe will represent the country well and qualify for their first ever AFCON Championship," head coach Peter Onen told Xinhua.

The tournament will attract ten teams from the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) and will start on Aug. 11 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Uganda are grouped alongside Ethiopia, Djibouti, South Sudan and Kenya in Pool B. Uganda will start its campaign against Ethiopia on Aug. 12 before they battle South Sudan on Aug. 17.

They will take on arch-rivals Kenya on Aug. 19 and will wrap things up with the final group game against Djibouti on Aug. 22. Group A has hosts Tanzania together with Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, and Sudan.

The CECAFA region will have two teams qualify for the 2019 tournament. Tanzania qualify automatically as hosts of the 2019 AFCON U-17 Championship. The top three teams at the 2019 AFCON U-17 tournament will qualify for FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru in 2019.
