MACAO, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Macao's transport and storage sector revenue grew by 11.7 percent year-on-year to 22.33 billion patacas (about 2.77 billion U.S. dollars) in 2017, the special administrative region's statistic service said here on Saturday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the increase were mainly generated from passenger transport (9.58 billion patacas or 1.19 billion dollars) and services rendered (8.15 billion patacas or 1.01 billion dollars), up by 7.9 percent and 20.3 percent respectively.

The number of establishments in the sector increased by 101 year-on-year to 3,054. The number of persons engaged went up by 9.7 percent to 19,489, with that in land transport (8,120), and auxiliary transport activities (7,957) rising by 19.1 percent and 6.1 percent respectively.

Analyzed by industry, revenues from auxiliary transport activities (11.75 billion patacas or 1.46 billion dollars), air transport (4.27 billion patacas or 529 million dollars)registered year-on-year growth of 15.5 percent and 4.2 percentrespectively.

Land transport revenue (3.78 billion patacas or 468 million dollars) rose by 18.9 percent, whereas sea transport revenue edged down by 0.9 percent to 2.53 billion patacas (about 314 million dollars).

Expenditure of the transport and storage sector amounted to 18.66 billion patacas (about 2.31 billion dollars), an increase of 12.0 percent year-on-year, the report added.

Gross surplus of the sector totalled 3.65 billion patacas (about 452 million dollars), up by 9.7 percent year-on-year. Gross value added rose by 4.4 percent to 7.33 billion patacas (about 908 million dollars).
