YANGON, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has placed its cooperation with the United Nations as a corner stone of its foreign policy, Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi said late Tuesday.

Marking the 73rd anniversary United Nations Day in Nay Pyi Taw, Aung San Suu Kyi, who is also foreign minister, said Myanmar will continue to work together with the United Nations in Myanmar's national endeavors in uplifting the socio-economic development of the people in line with its national priorities and requirements, Myanmar News Agency reported Wednesday.

Myanmar has already put in place the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan which includes five targets under three pillars serving as a roadmap for Myanmar's democratic transition, Suu Kyi said.

Emphasizing that Myanmar, as a young democracy, is still confronted with many challenges, Suu Kyi pledged Myanmar's determination to overcome the challenges with active participation of its people and the continued support of friends.

President U Win Myint has also sent a message to the United Nations, reaffirming Myanmar's commitment to the purpose and principles enshrined in the UN Charter and to working together constructively with other member states to support the efforts of the UN aiming with the realization of its noble goals.
