PHNOM PENH, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Vietnam on Tuesday signed five cooperation documents to boost bilateral ties and cooperation between the two neighboring countries, according to a joint communique.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and visiting Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong witnessed the signing ceremony of the documents after their bilateral meeting at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.

The pacts were focused on connectivity by land and water, trade facilitation, tourism promotion, and Vietnam's 25 million U.S. dollars grant aid for the construction of a Cambodian parliament's administration building, the joint communique said.

Before the signing ceremony, the two leaders held bilateral talks, pledging to further enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially in economics, trade, investment, and tourism.

"The leaders of the two countries had reported to each other about recent developments in their respective countries and had exchanged in-depth views on bilateral cooperation as well as regional and international issues of common interest," the communique said.

It said both sides also vowed to boost bilateral trade volume to 5 billion dollars in coming years after the two countries achieved 4.7 billion dollars trade volume in 2018.

For border issue, the communique said the two countries had so far completed 84 percent of border demarcation and vowed to accelerate negotiations towards completing the whole border demarcation in order to build a borderline of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation and sustainable development.

During the meeting, Hun Sen also congratulated Vietnam on hosting the summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) top leader Kim Jong Un on Feb. 27-28 in Hanoi, according to Eang Sophalleth, an assistant to Hun Sen.

Trong arrived in Cambodia on Monday for a two-day state visit at the invitation of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni.
