SANAA, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for multiple attacks against "military targets" in the government-controlled Marib province in northeastern Yemen on Thursday, using bomb-laden drones and a ballistic missile, rebels-run al-Masirah TV reported.

The drones targeted a Patriot missile air defence system belonging to a Saudi-led military coalition, which supports the Yemeni government forces against the Houthi rebels who stormed the capital Sanaa and seized much of the country's north since late 2014.

The missile targeted a gathering of forces in the center of Marib and killed dozens including leaders, the television quoted a statement from the group's military spokesman Yahya Sarea as saying. The rebels statement gave no further details.

Earlier in the day, the Yemeni government said a ballistic missile fired by Houthi rebels hit the residence of Marib governor Sultan al-Aradah in Wadi district in southeastern the province and completely destroyed it.

According to a statement on the government-run Saba news agency website, the governor was unhurt in the missile attack and there were no other casualties. The government statement did not provide further details.

Marib is about 170 km northeast of the rebel-held capital Sanaa.

It was the second attack the Houthi rebels used ballistic missile against Marib since the civil war erupted.

In September 2015, a Houthi ballistic missile attack on Marib killed 50 soldiers from the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, which are part of the Saudi-led coalition forces supporting the Yemeni government in fighting against the Iran-allied Shiite Houthi rebels since March 2015.
