PATTAYA, Thailand, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The 2019 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships continued with the women's 71kg and men's 89kg categories here on Monday, with athletes from the United States and Armenia winning gold medals of total.

In the women's 71kg category, two athletes from the United States dominated the competition. Katherine Nye won the gold of snatch with a good lift of 112kg at the third attempt. DPR Korea's Kim Hyo Sim took the silver on 110kg at the second attempt and Martha Rogers of the United States won the bronze on 106kg.

The U.S. athletes continued to enlarge their advantages in clean and jerk and won both gold and silver. Both of them failed at the last attempt, but Nye was able to claim the gold medal on 136kg and Rogers took the silver on 134kg. Emily Godley of Britain won the bronze with 126kg.

In total, Nye finished top on 248kg and her teammate Rogers won the silver of total on 240kg. Kim took the bronze of total on 230kg.

The sixth day of the championships also featured men's 89kg event. In the competition of snatch, Georgia's Revaz Davitadze won the gold on 172kg, three kilograms higher than the silver winner, Aliaksandr Bersanau of Belarus. Venezuela's Keydomar Sanchez won the bronze on the same weight as Bersanau.

The competition of clean and jerk saw completely different winners from snatch as Japan's Toshiki Yamamoto from Group B won the gold on a good lift of 208kg at the third attempt. Armenia's Hakob Mkrtchyan gave up his last attempt as he had already secured the gold of total, taking the silver of clean and jerk also on 208kg. Iran's Ali Miri won the bronze on 207kg.

Mkrtchyan won the gold of total in men's 89kg division with 375kg and Miri took the silver on 374kg. Davitadze claimed the bronze on 371kg.

The 10-day championships, running through September 27, also serves as qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, which do not include the women's 71kg and men's 89kg categories.
